I'm miscalculating somehow?

I'm miscalculating somehow?

Postby pyst7lot » Thu Oct 28, 2021 11:43 am

Looking at the last digit filter. For a 6 from 40 lottery (3838380 lines)
I select all last digits with a Min 5 Max 5 setting which leaves me with 1935360 lines
I select only 5 digits with the same Min 5 Max 5 setting to get 28160 lines
There are 252 unique combinations of 5 numbers from 10 numbers
252 x 28160 = 7096320 lines
I was expecting the result to be 1935360 lines - the same as my 1st calculation.

What am I thinking incorrectly?

Limit per ticket differences...

This setup means a ticket can only have 5 last digits out of 10 last digits per ticket. Example;

1,2,3,4,5,11 <- this ticket has exactly 5 last digits out of 10.

From the 252 unique combinations, multiple combinations can be in a ticket. Example;

1,2,3,4,5,6 <- this ticket has 6 combo's in the 252 unique combinations that match;

1,2,3,4,5
1,2,3,4,6
1,2,3,5,6
1,2,4,5,6
1,3,4,5,6
2,3,4,5,6

Ticket lines/results for 5 numbers from 10 numbers(252 unique combinations) would be 82,320 lines in a 6/40 lotto.

Thanks very much for trying TDNL - I need to write your nick down. There's some dense fog in my upstairs and I'm still not getting it. I'll keep thinking about it and checking your reply - it might click with me eventually. :)

Basically, the 252 unique combinations would allow for tickets with 6 different last digits,...the First/Last Digits filter with a "Min 5 Max 5 setting" can't. So the calculations for both would be different.
