Segment differences filter

Could anyone please explain to me how the Segment Differences Filter works as well as its derivative the Positional Segment Differences Filter?
A pop up info on the filter - see on the web - brings nothing on the subject. There is no statistics available.
I know the filter is very effective but blindly following results of previous draws is not productive.

No problem, hope it helps. The guide is just an easier way to display and follow the filters using the difference patterns properties, but there is still a lot of other information about how the segmentation tables work in the filters. If you need more info, let me know.
