Duplicate Combinations

Duplicate Combinations

Postby Alcymart » Tue Jun 24, 2008 4:09 am

Would someone know the easiest procedure to remove Duplicate combinations in a Package with EL?

[UPDATE] I'll try Match Package Filter. Match 6 "Remove" I guess...

Nope, thats not it...

[UPDATE] Match Package, Match 6 "Leave" seems to have done it... not completely sure yet...

Well, I still haven't found out how to remove duplicates from the package...

Hi Alcymart,

I presume you mean two packages with duplicates. In this case you can do it under file management where you are applying one package to the other and select no duplicates - see attached

Only 1 package... I thought I had tried what you suggest earlier today.. however it is logical and the first thing I had tried... after trying it again, it didn't work.

[UPDATE]
I still can't find a way to remove duplicates from a single package but looking hard and trying all kinds...

Heres an extreme example... lets say I have the below combinations in package:

01 04 08 10 24 35 48
01 04 08 10 24 35 48
01 04 08 10 24 35 48
01 04 08 10 24 35 48
01 04 08 10 24 35 48
01 04 08 10 24 35 48
01 04 08 10 24 35 48
01 04 08 10 24 35 48

And I want it to keep only 1 of them cause others are duplicates?
Now this could be done by hand of course but I'm talking about 180,000 combinations!

It would be so simple to remove duplicates by simply loading a file and merge to package (no duplicity) but it doesn't work. I don't know how long that "no duplicity" option has been there but it clearly doesn't work at all.

Ok, I think I found a way...
I used Match Package Filter Match 6 " Leave" and it removes 1 duplicate per pass.. it requires as many passes as there could be duplicates but seems to work.

Not quite right actually. It depends on which file is being merged into the other (no duplicates). If the example you show is already active as a package and you merge another file into it that contains a ticket that is the same as the multiple list you show then the merged combination will still include all of the multiple same tickets, but none of these will have come from the file that was merged in. If however you did it around the other way then there would be only one appearance of your multiple ticket set.

I recently asked Stan if he might include another condition in this file management process - to merge only duplicates - but I must admit I was not thinking of the condition you have described. But would this not be quite unusual?

Please explain that other way around with exact steps from scratch upon opening EL Falcon, I'm going in circles here. Thanks.

Consider having two files Alcy1 and Alcy2

Merge file 2 into file 1 and observe the result.

Then merge file 1 into file 2 and observe the result

Let me tell you why I need to remove duplicates Falcon...

I created a wheel 5in6if6 or (49,6,5,6)=180,000 with covermaster, however my file has duplicates in it. I know because I saw at least 4 of them running my eyes through the first thousand combinations after sorting in ascending.

I took note of some of them so to check after if something I tried worked but so far nothing seems to do the job... oh and by the way, its all a very slow process whatever I try so this is taking forever. I don't mind waiting if I know the job will be done you see.

As last resort I load the example file above with just duplicates in them to speed up my testing but still haven't found how, but perhaps you will explain how you think this would work. It would be so convenient if we had an option to just remove duplicates but I'll leave this up to Stan, but until then, I'de love to find a work around you see?

But I only have 1 file Falcon. A file with 180,000 combinations and duplicates in it.

Ok, I think I get your point, so my 2 files would be my 180,000 combinations file and the other would be all combinations or 13,983,816 and do what you say... ok, this is going to take forever but it might work...

oh geez, that makes no sense what I wrote above... I'm lost again...

For anybody else reading this thread, if you think your files have no duplicates, look again. I took for granted that I never had duplicates, but I find out now that... wait a minute, there are duplicates in there...

I couldn't find any program out there to remove duplicates.. only Excel I haven't checked yet if theres a built in function or plug-in.

I found a way to remove them duplicates with a text editor simply and it did it in a few seconds. there was 2 options... Find duplicates and find unique lines and after clicking unique lines it gave me all combinations leaving out any duplicates... I had 995 duplicates in my file. This must be a simple algorithm cause it did this in like 3 seconds.I'm a happy camper again.
