Lotto filter

can you please provide more detail how you calculate the standard deviation? i.e. how do you get the value '15' or '1.6'.

you may also try the ticket numbers range filter, it may provide the functionality you're looking for.

I was exporting some reports in Lotto Expert to Excel to get the median and standard deviation. If you don't mind could you explain to me how you get the +/- number for the median and the standard deviation. I look at the mode then the median and wonder what I use as +/- of the median to stay in the mode and the same goes for the standard deviation. Knowledge is money Bertril and you could make me rich. :-D

TIA

ok, got it. btw the accurate value for the standard deviation for a 5/53 powerball is 15.44.

i added the filter to our todo list. but it's at its bottom at the moment as there's a lot of other work to do and requests from registered users have hight priority. ;-)

i got that value as a standard deviation of a set of numbers 1 to 53. i used a spreadsheet processor to calculate it and 'verified' it by calculating it by hand using mathematical formulas found on the web.

i haven't actually tried it but i think calculating the standard deviation for each combination of 5 numbers out of 53 then the average value of the partial deviations should yield 15.44 as well. i could be wrong though, it's been some time since my math lessons. ;-)

maybe we could also extend expert lotto's stats to calculate the average, min and max standard deviations for the past XX draws and the new filter would remove all tickets outside the given standard deviation range.
on the other hand the existing ticket number range filter does that as well. it allows controlling how 'close' and/or how 'far' the numbers in each ticket should be. so it can be used to filter out combinations as 1,2,3,4,5 or 49,50,51,52,53 as well as 1,2,3,4,53 or 1,50,51,52,53

or am i completely wrong because you meant something else? :vogel:

ok, i put together a few lines of code and here are the results:

minimum deviation: 1.5811 (e.g. 1,2,3,4,5)
maximum deviation: 27.6712 (e.g. 1,2,3,52,53)
average deviation: 14.9239

all above calculated for all combinations of 5 numbers out of 53.

so my previous value of 15.44 does not apply. as i said - it's been some time since my match lessons ;-)

Thanks for reply. If you get the s.d for the set 1-2-51-52-53 it is 28.27.

sorry, but my spreadsheet processor (staroffice) shows that the standard deviation for 1,2,51,52,53 is 27.67

as for the rest, i'll have a look into it again when i have some more free time.
still i think that the ticket numbers range filter is more than adequate to filter out 'extreme' combinations like 1,2,3,4,5 or 1,2,51,52,53.

have a look at the links section at our website, there's a website listing a lot of other lottery software.

or you can you expert lotto to generate random tickets. expert lotto can generate ANY number of random tickets if you don't mind that some of them may be duplicates. if duplicates are not allowed than the amount of random tickets expert lotto can generate depends on the amount of available free memory.

if you promise to share your findings with us, we can provide a temporary one-week expert lotto license file for you. ;-)
