Standard deviation

Standard deviation

Hi Stan
Could you please explain more about "Standard deviation" & how it is calculated & it's use in Expert Lotto. On page 58 of the user manual it says that ticket 1,4,5,6,46,49, has a stdDev of 22,55. (note:- this has a comma between the 2 and the 5) Yet most of the stdDev in my Expert Lotto progam have figures of around 7.69 to say 13.53 ( note:- this has a decimal point inbetween figures) I realise however that the calcs in the user manual figures are in a 6/49 lotto & mine are from a 6/40 lotto. I'm interested to know a little more about it, as I am wondering whether or not to include the stdDev filter in my weekly lotto calculations? :wand: Many thanks

standard deviation is a common statistical function that can be applied to an row of numbers (you can find it e.g. in ms excel). it shows the distance or dispersion of the numbers.

the formula is sqrt( sum( sqr( avg-number(i) ) ) )

there's a typo in the manual, the value should read '22.55' (i.e. decimal separator instead of comma).
